Steve Pennington has over 30 years of senior leadership experience with both private sector and public sector organizations. Steve currently serves as Vice President, Technology & Innovation for the Maryland Tech Council (MTC) leading interaction for membership, sponsorship, and stakeholder engagement. This position keeps him actively involved with stakeholder and partner engagement across a broad spectrum of industry sectors as well as engaged with economic development organizations throughout Maryland. Prior to this position Steve was Managing Director/Assistant Secretary for the Maryland Department of Commerce leading the business units focused on growth, retention, and attraction of new businesses within the State. In this position he was actively engaged with the Executive branch, at the Agency, County and Municipal level and many non-profits and NGOs, promoting overall business growth within Maryland. At the Maryland Department of Commerce, he was also involved in multiple sector focused strategic industry planning, commissions, committees, task forces and roundtables.
Prior to Steve’s public sector experience, he had a decades long track record in the private sector as an early pioneer in the wireless industry working closely with Cellular One in Washington/Baltimore market and developing cellular markets throughout the United States. Steve was also Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for USA Mobility, an advanced messaging company with over $600 million in annual revenue. This role included responsibility for national accounts, direct and indirect sales channels and reseller operations including oversight for distribution agreements with Nextel, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and other regional carriers.
