Raju Balakrishnan serves as Dean and Professor at the Merrick School of Business, University of Baltimore effective 1 July 2023. He previously served as Dean and Professor at the College of Business, University of Michigan-Dearborn from 2013 to 2023. Prior to that, he served as senior associate dean at Clemson University’s College of Business and Behavioral Science and as chair of its Department of Management.
Before joining Clemson, he served as assistant professor at Tulane University’s A.B. Freeman School of Business. Dr. Balakrishnan is the lead author of the textbook Managerial Decision Modeling: Business Analytics with Spreadsheets and has published extensively in many peer-reviewed journals. He has received several accolades for leadership, in areas such as fundraising, academic accreditation, enrollment, and institutional development. He has won numerous awards for teaching excellence both at Clemson and at Tulane, and he has received several awards for his research including best paper awards from the Decision Sciences Institute and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Dr. Balakrishnan earned a Ph.D. in management from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University in 1987. He received a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1983, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree with honors in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology at the University of Madras in India in 1981.
