In 1997, Jay Steinmetz founded the company known today as Barcoding, Inc. By 2004, the company was an Inc. 500 company and was recognized by Forbes magazine as one of ten privately-held technology companies to watch. Steinmetz was nominated as a finalist and subsequently won the honor of being the 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year for the State of Maryland in Technology from Ernst & Young. Steinmetz sits on multiple boards, including the Chamber of Commerce and Sinai Hospital. Formally the Chairman of the State of Maryland’s Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), with which he had also held the title of treasurer.
Steinmetz is a published author of editorials in The Wall Street Journal, The Baltimore Sun, among others, and has written work for many national industry magazines. In addition to being a guest speaker and guest columnist for many organizations, he is sought out by publications to provide insight as an expert source for wireless, mobile, handheld technology, and the AIDC industry. Under Steinmetz’s leadership, Barcoding, Inc. grew the company to employ more than 175 people in 17 states and 2 countries and generates over $175 million in annual revenue. In 2023, Mr. Steinmetz sold 6 of 7 divisions to Graham Partners of PA and currently acts as the CEO for Power Up Connect LLC. Steinmetz graduated from the Berger Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Arizona with a degree in inventory management and management information systems.
