Melissa (she/her) is a trusted critical infrastructure protection professional with over 25 years of experience in the field, specializing in Industrial Cybersecurity. Melissa studied Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania, and participates actively in industry professional associations, serves on committees that have created Industrial Cybersecurity standards, and speaks at conferences and symposia around the world. It has been a privilege to be a member of the US Government’s ICSJWG Industrial Steering Team, to participate actively in ISA, to have served as the American Water SCADA Chairperson, as well as to participate in community engagement with groups like WiCyS.
Melissa is a big picture, people-oriented problem solver who sees continuing to advance the field of industrial cybersecurity as a lifelong work in progress. It has often been said that security is a journey, not a destination. With the explosion of Industry 4.0, IoT, and many new flavors of cyber-physical systems, she will continue to use her knowledge base, her years of experience, and all her abilities to make the world a better place through the design and implementation of appropriate risk management strategies.
When she is not working, Melissa practices her belief in the value of youth recreational sports for all and continues to campaign for inclusion as volunteer coach, league coordinator, and board member in her community. When not at work or volunteering, Melissa enjoys alpine skiing, football (aka soccer), theater, and spending time with her three children.
