Dr. Fernandez is an aviation cybersecurity expert and researcher. Formerly a Full Professor at Polytechnique Montreal, he led research on cybercrime, cyber security of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) in critical infrastructures, including in the aviation and maritime sectors. He continues to be involved in cybersecurity, as a researcher and innovator. He is an independent subject matter expert at the ICAO Trust Framework Panel and the Canadian Aviation Cyber Security Working Group.
Dr. Fernandez holds two B.Sc. in Mathematics and in Computer Engineering from MIT, a Master’s in Cryptography from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. in Quantum Computing from the Université de Montréal. An airline pilot with 2500 flight hours, type-rated on the Learjet 45, Challenger 604 and Embraer E2 195, he now works as First Officer at a Canadian airline. He is also the proud co-owner of a Piper Turbo Arrow IV.
